On November 6, 2019 within the XVI Forum on Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan the Scientific Conference “A Cross-Disciplinary Approach to Surgical Management of Diabetes” was held in Omsk. The conference was attended by leading experts from both states.
The best practices of doctors from Russia and Kazakhstan in the sphere of surgical management of diabetes were the issues on the agenda. The main point to be discussed was bariatric surgery which is nowadays the basis for the treatment of two medical conditions: obesity and type 2 diabetes. To this date this very method is relatively unknown despite its efficiency. In view of this, the conference contributes greatly to the development of medicine and bariatric surgery in particular.
The key speakers at the conference were surgeons and endocrinologists from Omsk, Astana, Saint Petersburg, Petropavlovsk, Pavlodar, and other cities of Russia and Kazakhstan. They made reports on the present state of bariatric and metabolic medicine, prospects for surgical management of diabetes and the results of their own studies.
