Centenary of Omsk Ophthalmology

On September 8, the Interregional Scientific Conference «Omsk Ophthalmology: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow» was held at Omsk Expo-Center, dedicated to the centenary of V.P. Vykhodtsev Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital and the centenary of OSMU Department of Ophthalmology.
 
The Conference was opened by A.V. VYKHODTSEV, MD, PhD, Medical Director of V.P. Vykhodtsev Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital, Honored Healthcare Worker of the Russian Federation. In his welcoming speech, he outlined the theme of the Conference - the history of Omsk ophthalmology and its current state.
 
– Omsk school of ophthalmology was built on glorious traditions which blossomed into strong and effective high-quality professional practice. I am glad that our University and the Hospital have such a long history of productive cooperation. I wish Regional ophthalmology prosperity and further development, – said Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, OSMU Rector.
Kind words were said by A.A. AKHRAMOVICH, Deputy Minister of Public Health of the Omsk Region, and A.Zh. FURSOVA, Chief External Specialist in Ophthalmology in Novosibirsk Region and Siberian Federal District.
 
The plenary session was devoted to the past and the current state of Omsk ophthalmology. The scientific potential of the area was described by Prof. O. I. LEBEDEV, MD, PhD, Head of OSMU Department of Ophthalmology.
 
The Conference was held in several parallel halls, including the General Panel, the Surgery Panel, and the Nursing Panel with at least 20 reports in each. The Conference gathered together participants from India and many Russian cities, including Omsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Orenburg, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, Ekaterinburg, and other Regions.
 
The Omsk Scientific School of Ophthalmology was represented by the staff of OSMU Department of Ophthalmology together with its Head. Prof. O. I. LEBEDEV presented two reports: «Science to practice: a glimpse through the century» and «Treatment of dry eye syndrome in patients with glaucoma». A.V. SUROV, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of OSMU Department of Ophthalmology, told the audience about the complex approach to managing comorbidity of age-related macular degeneration and other pathology and about superficial keratitis in patients with post-COVID conditions. E.A. STEPANOVA, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of OSMU Department of Ophthalmology, presented a report «Contribution of Omsk School of Ophthalmology to the knowledge on uveoscleral outflow in glaucoma» and «Adenoviral conjunctivitis: disease patterns, diagnostic difficulties». T.Yu. MATNENKO, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of OSMU Department of Ophthalmology, presented her report «Reasonable approach to the use of mydriatics in ophthalmology».
 
A busy day at the Conference has shown the significance of the raised topics and proved their importance for both researchers and clinicians. Omsk ophthalmology is evolving, gradually introducing the latest achievements in research into Regional practice.
