In the framework of the Association of Sino-Russian Medical Universities and the Council of Rectors of Medical and Pharmaceutical Higher Educational Institutions Association, Omsk State Medical University and Xinjiang Medical University (China) signed the agreement on cooperation in the field of healthcare, medical education, and science.
In October 2017, OSMU delegation visited Xinjiang Medical University and got acquainted with the work of clinics, the structure and organization of the educational process, and negotiated with the administration of the university. Xinjiang Medical University is located in Urumqi. It is a large university with eight university clinics, where both high-tech methods of European medicine and elements of traditional Chinese medicine (phytotherapy, acupuncture, acupressure, aromatherapy, massage, therapeutic exercises, manual therapy) are applied. Both those methods go well together and give a good effect, especially during the rehabilitation after serious illnesses and surgeries.
During the visit of 2017, both universities signed the agreement on cooperation in the field of healthcare, medical education, and science. In 2023, the agreement was extended for another five years. Since June 26, 2023, OSMU has been hosted the delegation of Chinese colleagues, and the topic of the visit has been the traditional Chinese medicine in the cancer treatment.
On June 27, 2023, the delegation of the Xinjiang Medical University, which included Prof. Zeng Binfang, Vice-Rector of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Prof. Chen Yang, Dean of the Faculty of United Chinese and European Medicine, Zhi Yun, Prof. Assoc. of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Wang Dongmei, Deputy Head of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Cancer Treatment of the Cancer Center, met Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, OSMU Rector, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Internal Medicine (Intermediate Level) and Gastroenterology Department, OSMU administration, Dmitry M. VYUSHKOV, MD, PhD, Acting Head of the OSMU Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy (Postgraduate Course), and Prof. Vadim A. AKHMEDOV, MD, PhD, Head of the Medical Rehabilitation (Postgraduate Course) Department of OSMU.
The visit resulted in a number of initiatives within the framework of a cooperation agreement, which reflected aspects of joint work in the field of educational and scientific exchange.
During the visit, Chinese colleagues presented their lectures to the engaged audience, which included both students and professors: «Traditional Chinese medicine in the stomach cancer treatment», «Traditional Chinese medicine in the colon and rectal cancer cancer treatment», and «Discussion of a treatment strategy for primary liver cancer». For OSMU part, Sergey I. MOZGOVOY, MD, PhD, Prof. of the Morbid Anatomy Department, read a lecture called « Multifocal atrophic gastritis: a point of no return?».
On June 28, 2023, the delegation of the Xinjiang Medical University will visit Medical Rehabilitation Center, where Zhi Yun, Prof. of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine will present his lecture, and specialists of both countries will exchange experiences during master classes.
