On May 19, the X National Student Olympiad on Epidemiology was held at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University). This year the Olympiad was dedicated to the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases.
This event brought together teams from 21 universities, including OSMU team, presented by 5th- and 6th-year students of the Faculty for Preventive Medicine: Artem SHISHKOV, Kristina LEV, Polina TARZANOVA, Alexey TEKUTIEV, and Mikhail RACHENKO , who had been trained by Elena A. VILMS, Prof. Assoc. of the Epidemiology Department.
The Olympiad was held in three stages: the theoretical one consisted of asking the teams questions from various areas of the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases; the practical case-based stage included finding mistakes and assessing the evidence level of the guidelines; the creativity competition requested to develop a full-fledged concept for the prevention of non-communicable diseases, justify possible impacts on risk factors, and then defend the project in front of the audience. During the last stage, OSMU team was tasked with presenting the concept of multiple sclerosis prevention.
In the practical case-based stage our team scored the maximum number of points. And according to the results of all competitions of the Olympiad, OSMU team «Profi-Omsk» was awarded a 3rd-place diploma!
The team expresses gratitude to the staff of the Epidemiology Department for their help in preparing for the Olympiad and to the University administration for the opportunity to take part in the event!
