Diagnostics in Orthopedic Dentistry

On March 17, 2023, the National Conference “Diagnostics in Orthopedic Dentistry” confined to the birthday of the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Vadim N. KOPEIKIN, took place. The event was organized by Russian Dental Association (RDA) and its section “Orthopedic Dentistry”. The online format allowed to attract lecturers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Perm, Smolensk, Nizhny Novgorod; and even more extensive was the geography of the listeners.

Prof. Alexander N. RYAKHOVSKY, DDM, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Head of the Orthopedic Dentistry section of RDA, moderator of the Conference, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech honoring Vadim N. KOPEIKIN - Soviet and Russian dentist and researcher, who developed methods of physical and mathematical modeling, tensometric techniques, and a variant of reoparodontography for the first time in the USSR.

The honorary right to open the Conference was given to Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, DDM, PhD, Head of the Orthopedic Dentistry Department of OSMU. His report "The diagnostic process in the clinic of orthopedic dentistry" projected the idea of the need for individualization of each clinical case and the importance of the diagnosis to be based on scientific data. The other crucial aspects of the diagnostic process are the correct interpretation of symptoms; the use of state-of-art diagnostic methods; taking into account the severity of the disease; carrying out the differential diagnosis. These principles were illustrated with the clinical cases. In his report, Andrey A. STAFEEV repeatedly emphasized that medical thinking is important in the diagnostics process and the management of patients should be based on the prognosis of the course of the disease after the treatment. He also repeatedly recalled the basic principles of diagnostics, declared by Vadim N. KOPEIKIN, whose memory the conference was dedicated to.

The conference lasted for a whole day and allowed scientists and orthopedists to learn about new methods of the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic diseases.
