On April 22, the final round of the II International Student Research Competition in Prosthodontics took place at the Medical and Biological University of Innovations and Continuing Education at the A.I. Burnazyan Federal Medical Biophysical Center. The event was initiated by the Russian Dental Association (RDA) and held under the direct supervision of Assoc. Prof. Valentina N. OLESOVA, DMD, PhD, Vice President of RDA, President of the Implantology Section, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, First Vice-Rector of the A.I. Burnazyan Federal Medical Biophysical Center.
The competition brought together the brightest finalists of regional student research contests from across Russia and neighboring countries. Twelve scientific presentations were delivered by students representing leading medical universities in Moscow, Omsk, Makhachkala, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Smolensk, Tver, Grozny, Nalchik, and Vladikavkaz.
This large-scale event was initiated and later organized thanks to the efforts of Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, DMD, PhD, Head of the OSMU Department of Prosthodontics, and Prof. Igor Y. LEBEDENKO, DMD, PhD, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Head of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. The initiative aimed to evaluate the quality of student research in prosthodontics across medical universities in Russia and neighboring countries, while fostering the growth and recognition of student-driven scientific inquiry. The project earned strong support from prominent professors and the leadership of RDA.
All presentations demonstrated a high level of scientific rigor and were assessed according to seven evaluation criteria by a distinguished panel of department heads, each of whom had chaired regional competitions earlier in the year. The final jury was chaired by Prof. Alexander N. RYAKHOVSKY, Head of the RDA Section for Prosthodontics, and included Prof. Valentina N. OLESOVA, Prof. Igor Y. LEBEDENKO, Prof. Natalia B. ASTASHINA, and Prof. Ramzan U. BERSANOV. The student reports covered a broad spectrum of critical issues in modern dentistry, encompassing diagnostic methods, advances in dental materials, and the nuances of clinical approaches to treating oral diseases.
Our University was represented by two reports: «Assessment of Head Position in Individuals with Functional Disorders of the Craniomandibular System» by Yan BELITSKY, a 4th-year student (scientific supervisor: Prof. Asst. Sergey I. SOLOVYOV, DMD, PhD); «Digital Registration of the Interalveolar Height and Mesiodistal Jaw Position» by Aziza TOSHKHUZHAEVA, a 5th-year student (scientific supervisor: Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, DMD, PhD, and Prof. Asst. Alexander V. KHIZHUK, DMD) - this presentation was named the absolute winner of the student science competition in Russia.
