On December 15-16, 2023, Siberian State Medical University (Tomsk) hosted the First National Olympiad on Pediatric Urology and Andrology with International Participation. It attracted participants from Tomsk, Omsk, Barnaul, Kemerovo, Moscow, Astana (Kazakhstan), and Bukhara (Uzbekistan).
OSMU was represented by the team of the Pediatric Surgery and Reproductive Health for Children and Adolescents Department called «Juventas»: Elizaveta DUBROVINA, Vladlen ZHOROV, Alina KOSTUCHENKO, and Elizaveta PUSTOVETSKAYA.
The Olympiad took place at the multidisciplinary accreditation and simulation center of Siberian State Medical University and included 8 stages:
1. Communication skills (establishing contact with the child’s mother and explaining further tactics);
2. Kidney ultrasound (communication, practical, and theoretical skills were assessed on real patients);
3. Virtual patient (solving a clinical case using the «Dimedus» hardware and software platform);
4. Manual skill (paraphimosis reduction);
5. Cystoscopy and ureteral stent placement (using a simulator);
6. Basic CPR of an 8-year-old child using an AED;
7. Describing excretory urography pictures;
8. Laparoscopic nephrectomy for multicystic dysplastic kidney in a 15-year-old child using a virtual laparoscopic simulator.
On the first day, the entire team took part in the competitions, and the competitions of the second day were held for team captains only.
Based on the results, «Juventas» got the second place on the team scoring. Elizaveta DUBROVINA got the first place Diploma in the «Manual skill» competition and Alina KOSTUCHENKO showed the best result in the «Laparoscopic nephrectomy» competition as the team captain.
In addition, students attended a workshop on communication skills with the use of the national robot simulator «Virtubot».
