Governor of Omsk Region congratulated OSMU students on Knowledge Day
On 1 September, Knowledge Day, Alexander BURKOV, Governor of the Omsk Region, met with OSMU students. Tatiana DERNOVA, Minister of Education of the Omsk Region, and Irina SOLDATOVA, Minister of Health of the Omsk Region also attended the meeting.
Opening the meeting, Governor congratulated Maria LIVZAN, Rector of OSMU, and the academic staff of the University on the beginning of a new academic year.
"Your profession requires to study constantly," - addressed Mr BURKOV to the medical students. – If you do not learn something every single day, it is a wasted day. On October 21st, your University will celebrate its 100th anniversary. During this time over 50,000 doctors graduated from the University. University is proud of the outstanding academicians and scientists, such as Valentina Pavlovna BISYARINA, Leonid Vasilyevich POLUEKTOV and Valery Konstantinovich LEONTIEV who worked at University in different periods of time."
Alexander BURKOV noted that 24 billion rubles would be invested in regional healthcare service until 2024 as a part of the National Project on Healthcare initiated by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"But no modern equipment can cure without a doctor. That is why we are trying to create for you more work places. One of the most considerable fact for us is that 200 vacancies in the healthcare system that are open every year are now filled. What we have observed nowadays that the older generation of professionals is leaving, and you will have to take their places, you will have to develop our Omsk healthcare system. It is important for us that you all come to work in your specialty in the future," - Governor said.
"I would like to thank you all for not staying away during the difficult period for the country, for our region, during the pandemic. You are the first who came to the rescue. And, furthermore, today your teachers and residents continue to work in the "red zone". This is a really big deal. I would like to mention the work of your volunteers. Medical and regional volunteers were able to help 22 thousand people in Omsk providing the assistance and support during this period," - Alexander BURKOV told. Then he asked medical students to share their impressions in respect to the choice of profession and to explain what kind of help is needed from him as a Governor and the Government of Omsk Region. .
Mr. BURKOV spent almost an hour answering a variety of questions from scholarships and a lack of places in the dormitory to such topics as ecology and cycling.
Closing the meeting, the Governor called on medical students to keep and strengthen the traditions of the Omsk Medical School and to become the true professionals in the field of medicine.
