The II National Online Student Olympiad on Digital Orthopedic Dentistry dedicated to the memory of Prof. Vadim N. KOPEYKIN, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Honored Scientist and Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation was held on March 20 - 24, 2021. It was launched on the initiative of Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, Head of the Orthopedic Dentistry Department of OSMU, and Prof. Igor Yu. LEBEDENKO, Head of the Orthopedic Dentistry Department of RUDN University (Moscow) under support of Russian Dental Association and Russian Digital Dental Association.
The competition attracted 43 teams from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. The team of the Orthopedic Dentistry Department of OSMU, including students of the Dentistry Faculty, Vladislav S. LYSENKO and Vladimir S. TARASOV, and a first-year resident of the Orthopedic Dentistry Department, Ekaterina A. KORNEEVA, became the winners of the Olympiad!
The Jury Panel evaluated the ability of students to use modern 3D visualization software «AVANTIS 3D», to make a diagnosis, and to draw up alternative treatment plans. All teams had the same task and primary information including scans of dentition, bite registration materials, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and the photographic protocol of the patient.
On March 24, a number of seminars for the participants were held, where Prof. Alexander N. RYAKHOVKY, Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, and Prof. Rinat A. SALEEV discussed the typical mistakes in building a 3D scene, methodological and clinical approaches to dental rehabilitation planning, and analyzed the aforementioned clinical case.
The next Russian Online Olympiad on Aesthetic Prosthetics is scheduled on October 2021, and it will be timed to the World Smile Day.
