On December 16-17, 2022, Samarkand State Medical Institute hosted the III International Olympiad for Students of Medical Universities «Samarkand-2022». It attracted representatives of Russia, Turkey, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries, and included competitions in 30 subjects held in Uzbek, Russian, and English languages both online and in person.
Alina S. KOSTYUCHENKO, a 6th-year student of the Faculty of Pediatrics, represented OSMU in the online Pediatric Surgery Olympiad. Her academic advisor is Prof. Andrey V. PISKLAKOV, MD, PhD, Head of the Pediatric Surgery and Reproductive Health for Children and Adolescents Department.
The main areas of competitions this year were emergency pediatric surgery and surgical interventions for congenital anomalies.

Alina KOSTYUCHENKO successfully passed the first stage (online testing) and at the second stage demonstrated an excellent result by answering a theoretical question on pediatric surgery, solving a clinical case, and describing the steps of practical skill.
Theoretical knowledge and practical skills were highly appreciated by the international jury, and Alina KOSTYUCHENKO was awarded a 1st-place diploma!
We thank the academic advisor and the administration of OSMU for their help in preparing for the Olympiad, as well as the Samarkand State Medical Institute for the opportunity to perform before the respected jury!
