For the first time in Russia, the Department of Prosthodontics of OSMU, in collaboration with the Department of Prosthodontics of RUDN University (Moscow), held the first International Student Science and High Art Festival on November 13-14. The event was organized within the framework of the "Science and Technology in the Russian Federation" decade. The organizers of this significant event were Prof. Andrey A. c (Omsk), Prof. Igor Yu. LEBEDENKO (Moscow), and Assoc. Prof. of the Department of Prosthodontics Alexander V. KHIZHUK (Omsk). This Festival has become a significant platform for the development and demonstration of diagnostic methods and manual skills through digital technologies, while simultaneously immersing oneself in the world of music and graphic art.
Six student teams from universities in Perm, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Almaty, Novosibirsk, and Omsk participated in the festival. A jury of leading specialists in orthopedic dentistry, including employees of the Prosthodontics Departments of Universities of aforenamed cities, evaluated the participants' work according to high standards.
The first day of the Festival included a wide range of events: a university presentation (video presentation), a student diagnostics Olympiad consisting of a digital assessment of the functional state of the dentoalveolar system using a chewing test developed by the Prosthodontics Department of OSMU, digital diagnostics of the oral mucosa using the AFS stomatoscopy device, manual skills training in silicone key fabrication, preparation, photodiagnostics, taking optical impressions, and fabricating temporary crowns. The evening program continued with an introduction to the Omsk Symphony Orchestra, which performed works of art by P.I. Tchaikovsky, G.V. Sviridov, and A.P. Petrov.
The second day of the Festival was dedicated to a student research paper competition. As part of this program, students presented their research findings, reflecting current trends in scientific and practical developments in dentistry. This allowed jury to assess the level of scientific training and creativity of young medical students across the country.
The Festival program concluded with the unprecedented opening of a unique exhibition of selected graphic works from the collection of Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, DMD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), Head of the Prosthodontics Department of OSMU, "From the Great Piranesi to the Art Deco Genius Erté". The exhibition included unique etchings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, which immerse the audience in the atmosphere of ancient Rome, as well as works by renowned graphic artists of the 18th and 19th centuries. The second part of the exhibition was dedicated to the Art Deco era, featuring works by artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. Over 100 original graphic works were on display at the Artists' House, allowing festival participants to enjoy high art and expand their understanding of the beauty of the world, which should be a constant companion in the work of a dentist.
The Ural State Medical University (Yekaterinburg) student team was declared the overall winner of the Competition. The Omsk State Medical University team (5th-year students Yan BELITSKY and Yana SOLODOVNIKOVA) took second place overall and won prizes in several categories. Denis KHIZHUK, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Dentistry, became the winner of the poster presentation competition.
For winning the overall championship, the USMU team was awarded a 19th-century engraving from the collection of Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV. All participants and winners were awarded diplomas, valuable gifts, and books published by leading Russian professors.
We sincerely congratulate our students and their academic supervisors - Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, Assoc. Prof. Alexander V. KHIZHUK, Prof. Asst. Sergey I. SOLOVIEV, Prof. Asst. Rustam Sh. KASENOV, - as well as the entire Department of Prosthodontics for their high level of preparation and achievements at the Festival. Their successes demonstrate the high scientific and educational potential of our university and confirm the relevance and importance of scientific research in dentistry conducted by the Prosthodontics Department.
