Interregional Scientific Conference «Topical Issues in Neurology and Neurosurgery»

On December 5, 2025, OSMU held the Interregional Scientific Conference «Topical Issues in Neurology and Neurosurgery» at the Omsk Regional Clinical Hospital. The event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Yuri N. SAVCHENKO, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), an outstanding neurologist and laureate of the RSFSR State Prize in Science and Technology.

The date of the conference was highly symbolic, bringing together a series of commemorative occasions. On December 2, Professor Yuri N. SAVCHENKO, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), and a guiding figure for generations of neurologists, would have turned 100. On December 5, 1897, his father Nikolai I. SAVCHENKO, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), a prominent Soviet neurologist, Honored Scientist of the RSFSR, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, and a distinguished figure in public healthcare, was born. Additionally, December 1 marked the professional holiday of neurologists in Russia - Neurologist’s Day.

«Yuri N. SAVCHENKO is rightfully regarded as our teacher, and the entire Savchenko family dynasty made a remarkable contribution to the development of neurology and neurosurgery. To honor his memory, on December 2, the day of his birth, we laid a ceremonial wreath at his monument.” - emphasized Professor Valeriy I. LARKIN, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), Head of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, including Postgraduate Training Courses at OSMU.

This tribute was more than a tradition, it was a profound expression of respect for the last veteran of the Great Patriotic War within OSMU, and a powerful act of preserving historical continuity and intergenerational connection.

Earlier in May, a series of scientific events had been held to mark both the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the 100th anniversary of Yu. N. SAVCHENKO. Among them, the III Siberian NeuroCongress with international participation stood out as a landmark event.

The goal of the current conference was to promote the implementation of modern diagnostic and treatment methods into clinical practice, enhancing the effectiveness of medical care for patients with neurological disorders. The agenda included presentations by leading neurologists and neurosurgeons, as well as reports from researchers and practicing clinicians.

OSMU was represented by four Departments: Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, including Postgraduate Training Courses, Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses, Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology, and Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, including Postgraduate Training Course.

Thanks to this interdisciplinary collaboration, the conference covered a wide range of topics. Presentations focused on scientific approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of neurological diseases.

Key discussions included telerehabilitation for neurological patients, optimal treatment selection for dementia, multiple sclerosis, and other conditions involving cognitive impairment, a number of pressing issues requiring close attention from the medical community.

In sum, the Conference served as an essential platform for knowledge exchange in the fields of neurology and neurosurgery, expanding professional horizons and strengthening the scientific community.
