From October 20 to 24, 2025, the OSMU Department of Physical Culture hosted a delegation from Xinjiang Medical University (People’s Republic of China), including Lei Guo, Xui Bai, Yukui Tian, and Sien Fan. During their visit, they introduced students and teachers to the ancient Chinese system of wellness - Qigong.
Rooted in centuries of tradition, Qigong is a practice that blends breathing techniques, meditation, and gentle physical movements aimed at improving health and posture. The philosophy behind Qigong dates back over a thousand years before the Common Era and has evolved significantly over the ages. Although modern Qigong differs from its original forms, it retains its foundational principles rooted in Chinese philosophy.
The term «Qigong» is composed of two Chinese characters: «Qi», often translated as «breath», «air», or «energy», and «Gong», meaning «work», «power», or «achievement». Together, they signify «energy work» - the cultivation and regulation of internal energy.
Often referred to as a key to longevity, Qigong is more than a type of physical activity. It is a holistic philosophy of health and balance, accessible to individuals of all ages, including those with health conditions. The practice offers a path toward physical well-being, emotional equilibrium, and mental clarity.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the representatives of Xinjiang Medical University for this inspiring workshop and wish them continued success and prosperity in their endeavors.
