On December 15-16, 2023, the IV International Olympiad for Students of Medical Universities «Samarkand-2020» was held. It was aimed at popularizing different branches of medical and fundamental sciences, increasing students’ interest in educational activities and science, and creating opportunities for students to demonstrate their scientific and creative potential.
The Olympiad was held in 38 medical fundamental and clinical disciplines, where more than 5000 students from medical universities of France, Poland, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan took part in online and offline formats. We express our deepest gratitude to Prof. Zhasur A. RIZAEV, MD, PhD, Rector of Samarkand State Medical University, for the invitation to take part in the Olympiad and long-term friendly and scientific cooperation!
OSMU was represented by 4th- and 5th-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry, who competed in the following sections: Aziza TOSHKHIZHAEVA (prosthodontics), Yulia FINK (surgical dentistry), Alina-Dolores SHENKNEKHT (pediatric dentistry), Maksim SHENKNEKHT (preventive dentistry).
The Olympiad included the following stages: testing, answering theoretical questions, solving clinical cases, and demonstrating the practical skills.
The participants' answers were evaluated by a team of international judges. Among the jury members were OSMU professors: Prof. Larisa M. LOMIASHVILI, DMD, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Head of the Preventive Dentistry Department, and Prof. Andrey A. STAFEEV, DMD, PhD, Head of the Prosthodontics Department.
According to all stages of the Olympiad, OSMU team was awarded the 2nd-place Diploma in the prosthodontics section, 2nd-place Diploma in the surgical dentistry section, 2nd-place Diploma in the pediatric dentistry section, and the «Disciple of Avicenna» Diploma in the preventive dentistry section. We congratulate our team on their outstanding achievements and express our deepest gratitude to the professors, tutors, and administration of OSMU!
