On February 8, 2021, the meeting of the Association «Council of Rectors of Medical and Pharmaceutical Educational Institutes of Russia» chaired by Petr V. GLYBKO, Rector of I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, was held in a format of conference-call. The meeting was also attended by Mikhail M. MURASHKO, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation.
The meeting was opened with a moment of remembrance for doctors who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the pandemic.
In his opening remarks, Mikhail Murashko noted the strong unity of science and practical healthcare. High quality of education, promising potential and technological advance allowed responding to pandemic quickly: vaccines against a new coronavirus infection were developed and brought to market, and their large-scale production was organized as quickly as possible.
The Minister has also noted the great contribution of Medical Universities in the fight against the pandemic. «During this period, a great deal of assistance to the healthcare system was provided by medical students and teachers. I express my deep gratitude to the Rectors of Universities, the teaching staff, and, of course, the students. It would have been much harder to go through this difficult period without your help», - says Mikhail Murashko.
Almost 60 thousand Medical Volunteers and 13 thousand teachers help the healthcare system, and 25 thousand students and 2 thousand teachers work directly in the red zone.
The Minister has also noted the need to perpetuate the feat of doctors, and for this purpose, the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation and Sechenov University are to open a monument in honor of medical workers.
Mikhail Murashko touched upon the topic of modernization of primary care, identifying it as one of the priority areas of work, and instructed the Rectors of Universities to prepare proposals for improving the functional and organizational approaches.
