On September 23-26, 2026, OSMU hosted the National Scientific Conference with international participation "Natural Sciences and Medicine in the Focus of Time: Research Challenges and Prospects" bringing together students, young scientists, and teaching staff. The event was organized by the OSMU Departments of Chemistry; Biology; and Physics, Physics, Mathematics and Health Informatics.
The conference aimed to identify and support talented young people with an aptitude for research, foster critical thinking, showcase scientific findings, and facilitate professional networking Second- to fourth-year students conducted a workshop for first-year students, showcasing the results of original research and sparking genuine interest in the natural sciences. Teaching staff introduced the first-year students to the departments' research activities from a historical perspective and explained the structure of a presentation and the evaluation criteria. The conference was attended by 290 students, PhD students and faculty members, including those from OSMU, Omsk State Pedagogical University, Omsk State Agrarian University, and Omsk State University, universities of Moscow and Kursk, and Kazakhstan. A total of 30 research papers were presented.
The conference was divided into four sessions: "Current Issues in Medicinal Chemistry", "Advances in Medicinal Chemistry", "Current Issues in Medical Biology", "Current Issues in Medical Physics and Informatics". The scientific event served as a platform for advancing science, exchanging expertise, and seeking solutions to improve human health.
