OSMU Delegation Paid a Working Visit to Karaganda Medical University (Republic of Kazakhstan)

As part of expanding international partnerships and the implementation of the academic mobility program «Visiting Professor», a delegation from the OSMU Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, paid a working visit to Karaganda Medical University (Republic of Kazakhstan).

The OSMU delegation was led by Prof. Viktor A. AKULININ, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), Head of the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, and Assoc. Prof. Irina G. TSUSKMAN, PhD (in Veterinary Sciences).
The visit featured a comprehensive program aimed at exchanging advanced experience and strengthening scientific ties in the field of fundamental medical sciences.

The key event was a scientific seminar entitled «Experience in the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Digital Morphology». Prof. Akulinin delivered an in-depth overview of current trends in digital histology, including the integration of AI for histological image processing, automation of slide analysis, diagnostic accuracy enhancement, and the future of intelligent clinical decision support systems.

The lecture sparked lively discussion among faculty, researchers, and students from the Department of Morphology at Karaganda Medical University. The participants explored the practical applications of AI algorithms in education, discussed ethical considerations in deploying such technologies, and considered potential joint projects in the field of digital pathology.

In the sphere of education, the delegation successfully contributed to the creation of shared digital content. Several themed video lectures were recorded in the professional studio of KMU. These materials will be included in the joint media library of both universities and used for educational purposes. Special emphasis was placed on innovative teaching methods for complex morphological disciplines, including the use of scanned histological slides and interactive panels in the learning process.

The scientific component of the visit included a hands-on workshop on modern histological research methods and a working session to plan future collaborative scientific and educational initiatives. Omsk specialists served as expert consultants on research projects at the KMU Department of Morphology. This collaboration benefited from Prof. Akulinin’s experience in supervising the PhD thesis of graduate student F.S. Olzhaev (Nazarbayev University, Astana), further clarifying directions for long-term cooperation.

The visit confirmed a strong mutual interest and readiness to deepen institutional collaboration. The parties agreed to explore opportunities for joint scientific publications, online seminars, conferences, and the expansion of academic exchange. This cooperation contributes to the development of a unified scientific and educational space and aligns with the strategic priorities of advancing medical science and education in both countries.
