OSMU Holds Regional Conference on Current Issues in Pulmonology in Primary Care Practice

A Regional Scientific Conference «Current Issues in Pulmonology in Primary Care Practice», dedicated to International General Practitioners’ Day, was held in Omsk. The event was organized by the OSMU Department of Internal Medicine and Outpatient Care.

The Conference brought together general practitioners, doctors from general medical practice departments and outpatient clinics of the Omsk Region, as well as clinical residents of internal medicine departments.

Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Inna A. VIKTOROVA, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), Head of the OSMU Department of Internal Medicine and Outpatient Care, Chief External General Practitioner of the Omsk Region, and Dmitry V. PETROV, Chief External Pulmonologist of the Omsk Region, pulmonologist at Prof. A.N. Kabanov Omsk Clinical Hospital №1.

The Conference featured reports «Management of Cardiorespiratory Risks in Patients with COPD» by Dmitry V. PETROV and «A New Era in Bronchial Asthma Therapy: from SABA to ICS/SABA in a Fixed-Dose Combination» by Prof. Inna A. VIKTOROVA.

The presentations addressed outpatient aspects of managing patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma by primary care doctors, including general practitioners, family physicians, and outpatient internists. The speakers also discussed common mistakes and risks associated with improper management of patients with obstructive airway diseases.

The participants showed particular interest in the proper use of various inhalation delivery devices, ranging from metered-dose inhalers to dry-powder inhalers such as Turbuhaler-type devices. Practical skills for teaching patients how to use inhalers correctly were clarified and demonstrated during the Conference.
