In his welcoming address, Dmitry A. MOROZOV emphasized that Omsk was chosen as the venue for a reason, as it is home to one of the strongest schools for training academic and teaching staff in pediatric surgery in Russia. This tradition was established by previous generations of pediatric surgeons, including Prof. Leonid A. SITKO, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation and Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation.
«Pediatric surgeons play a vital social role, performing up to 500000 operations on children each year. Around 250 newborns are diagnosed annually with anorectal malformations, most requiring individualized care. Omsk is home to one of the country’s strongest pediatric surgical teams, capable of managing even the most complex cases», - noted Dmitry A. MOROZOV.
Alexander Yu. RAZUMOVSKY emphasized that the Symposium fosters meaningful scientific dialogue between leading experts and early-career professionals who will shape the future of this highly in-demand specialty.
The Symposium proved highly significant from scientific, methodological, and educational perspectives. The social importance of pediatric surgery within the healthcare system cannot be overstated, demanding the highest standards of organization and clinical practice. The resolution adopted following the symposium addressed, among other priorities, the optimization of patient routing for children with multiple congenital anomalies, aiming to consolidate human and material resources to ensure the best possible treatment outcomes.
Leading experts from across Russia, together with colleagues from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, delivered presentations covering the organization of neonatal surgical care, national clinical guidelines, current surgical trends, and repeat reconstructive procedures, with particular emphasis on rehabilitation and patients’ quality of life after treatment. Participants of both the Symposium and the student Conference showed strong interest in innovative technologies in pediatric surgery.
Future pediatric surgeons also contributed significantly, presenting the results of extensive research in more than one hundred reports on thoracic surgery, neonatology, urology, traumatology, and genital surgery. Dozens of sections and poster sessions were held, ranging from «Aggressive Foreign Bodies in the Gastrointestinal Tract» to «Robot-Assisted Surgery».
The closing ceremony featured a symbolic passing of the scalpel, representing continuity between generations of pediatric surgeons. The organizers emphasized the high level of preparation demonstrated by the young researchers. The Conference winners received recommendations for further professional development and future participation in academic and clinical projects. Special attention during the meeting was given to clinical guidelines and ethical issues in pediatric surgery.
Congratulations to all participants, and we wish you new discoveries for the benefit of young patients!
