Regional Career-Focused Session for Aspiring Medical Students Held at OSMU

The OSMU Pre-University Training and Career Center hosted Regional Career-Focused Session for highly motivated 8th–9th grade students from schools of the Omsk Region. The event took place in collaboration with «Sirius 55» and was organized by the Department of Biology and the Department of Chemistry.

The partnership between OSMU and the Regional Talent Development Center “Sirius 55,” launched in January, includes three career-focused sessions - two already completed, with the third set for April 14-18. As part of this collaboration, students participate in two programs: «Cell Kaleidoscope» and «Calculations in Chemistry». The latter offers interactive, hands-on lessons in medical-related chemical calculations. This time, students studied gas laws, practiced equation solving, and conducted lab experiments with copper hydroxide and glucose.
As part of the «Cell Kaleidoscope» program, students explored cellular energy metabolism, observed yeast budding under a microscope, and conducted an iodoform experiment. They also studied genetic information storage by assembling DNA models and analyzing RNA chains. Elena D. SERGEEVA, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, led a tour of the department and spoke about the Faculty of General Medicine.
Beyond classroom activities, students joined a guided tour of OSMU’s main building with Maksim K. SHUBIN, Career Advisor of the OSMU Pre-University Training and Career Center, learning about the University’s history, Faculties, and programs. A highlight was visiting the OSMU Museum, which honors medical professionals who contributed during the Great Patriotic War.
The session opened with a presentation by Alena V. BAKAEVA, MD, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine, and an overview of University and College programs by Yulia A. MITYUSHOVA, Career Advisor of the OSMU Pre-University Training and Career Center. On the final day, Tatyana A. GANYAEVA, Head of the Career Guidance Sector, answered students’ questions and invited them to attend upcoming Welcome Days at all five Faculties.
