Scientific Conference «Burning Issues of Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Diseases»

On October 2, 2023 OSMU hosted the Scientific Conference «Burning Issues of Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Diseases» organized by OSMU and the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region. Expert scientists who are involved in creating new standards and clinical guidelines presented their lectures to an audience of more than 300 specialists and practicing doctors.
The welcoming words were delivered by Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, Rector of OSMU, Corresponding Member of RAS, Head of the Internal Medicine (Intermediate Level) and Gastroenterology Department. Then she presented her report entitled «Drug induced gastro-intestinal tract lesions in the clinical practice of GP and gastroenterologist» and involving matters of drug-induced esophagitis, gastropathy, enteropathy, liver and pancreas injury, mechanisms of development, principles of diagnosis, and tactics for managing patients with various drug-induced digestive organs’ lesions.
 
In her turn, Prof. Marina F. OSIPENKO, MD, PhD, Head of the Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases Department of Novosibirsk State Medical University, delivered the reports called «Drug-induced liver injury. Clinical demonstration» and «Probiotics in eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori». 
 
Maria A. LIVZAN gave a number of lectures on the burning issues if gastroenterology: «Modulation of the gut microbiota as a target in the management of a patient with IBS», «IBS and IBS-like syndromes in a clinical practice», and  «Hyperammonemia: diagnostic capabilities and methods of correction».
 
These topics were relatable to the speeches of Elena A. LYALYUKOVA, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine (Postgraduate Course) Departmemt of OSMU, who talked about the bariatric surgery in the practice of GP and gastroenterologist, and Prof. Vadim A. AKHMEDOV, MD, PhD, Head of the Medical Rehabilitation (Postgraduate Course) Department of OSMU, who discussed the rational management of patients with GERD.
 
Several reports were devoted to diffuse liver diseases: «NAFLD pandemic» by Maria A. LIVZAN and «Follow-up monitoring of patient with NAFLD» by Tatiana S. KROLEVETS, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of the Internal Medicine (Intermediate Level) and Gastroenterology Department, who highlighted the issues of assessing the risk of development and progression of cardiovascular pathology and hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with NAFLD, prevention methods, frequency and extent of examinations.
 
Galia R. BIKBAVOVA, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of the Internal Medicine (Advanced Course) and Endocrinology Department, told about the follow-up monitoring patient with ulcerative colitis including the issues of frequency and extent of examinations, therapeutic and rehabilitation measures, criteria for the follow-up monitoring, and risk factors and prevention strategies for colorectal cancer in these patients.
 
Larisa I. TELYATNIKOVA, Head of the Endoscopy Department of Ultramed Clinical Center, spoke about the gastric polyps: the epidemiology, risk factors for their development, endoscopic diagnosis, histological assessment of identified tumors and its interpretation with regard to the risk of developing stomach cancer, modern methods of treatment, and indications and contraindications to polypectomy.
 
- Twice a year, at the Omsk State Medical University, we exchange opinions on issues related to gastroenterology. – said Marina F. OSIPENKO. - It is very valuable that the emphasis is always placed on the researches conducted in OSMU. Today, under the leadership of Maria A. LIVZAN, a large number of areas are being developed here, and the Conference presents the quintessence of these researches - on NAFLD, IBS, and functional disorders.
 
Summing up the event, Vadim A. AKHMEDOV mentioned that only a coordinated interdisciplinary approach to patients with GI tract diseases can increase the effectiveness of treatment.
