The academic year for the «Smile» volunteer movement has begun with great enthusiasm. On September 6, volunteers visited the «House of Rainbow Childhood» pediatric hospice. The importance of these meetings cannot be overstated, for both mothers with their terminally ill children and for the future medical professionals of «Smile».
The «House of Rainbow Childhood» adheres to European standards for palliative care and stands as the only pediatric hospice of its kind in Russia. It not only cares for terminally ill children but also strives to significantly improve the quality of life for its young patients, rather than merely extending their lives.
The volunteers' mission is to enhance the quality of life for palliative patients. Dental students educated mothers and children about how oral health impacts overall well-being, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, which directly affects the overall health of patients.
It is heartening to see that the mothers and patients at the hospice, who have already interacted with the «Smile» volunteers, recognize the critical role of preventive care and daily oral hygiene in ensuring the dental health of their children. The diligence and daily selfless efforts of mothers significantly influence the dental health of their children.
