On April 21, 2023, the Department of Dental Surgery, Institute of Dentistry (Sechenov University), hosted the X National Student Olympiad on Dental Surgery with International Participation «Steps to Mastery». 40 Dentistry students from Russia and the Near Abroad gathered together to compete in the Olympiad.
OSMU was represented by the 5th-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry: A. A. BONDAR and A. K. ROZHNOV.
The welcoming speeches were made by Prof. I. M. MAKEEVA, DMD, PhD, Director of the Institute of Dentistry (Sechenov University), and Prof. S. V. TARASENKO, DMD, PhD, Head of the Department of Dental Surgery, Institute of Dentistry (Sechenov University).
The Olympiad included 5 main competitions: a quiz, a case-solving on major issues of routine and emergency surgery, 2 practical competitions (augmentation with a connective tissue graft and implant placement), and writing an abstract for a scientific article.
Before the announcement of the final results of the Olympiad, participants heard a report by Antonina FOMINA, Medical Consultant of «Geistlich» Company, entitled «State-of-the-art materials for hard and soft tissue augmentations».
A. K. ROZHNOV was awarded II Place Diploma, and A. A. BONDAR received a special gift from S. V. TARASENKO, a set of books, and a certificate for a one-day «Simko Academy» course in 2023.
The OSMU team was trained by the staff of OSMU and leading dentists: A. S. KORSHUNOV, MDM, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of the Department of Dentistry (Postgraduate Course), Head of the Preventive Dentistry Department in Omsk Dentistry Clinic №1, K. N. KURYATNIKOV, MDM, Prof. Asst. of the Department of Dentistry (Postgraduate Course), Doctor of the Preventive Dentistry Department in Omsk Dentistry Clinic №1, and D. O. SEROV, Doctor of the Preventive Dentistry Department in Omsk Dentistry Clinic №1.
