On December 19-20, a two-day interuniversity Olympiad in surgical dentistry took place, providing future dentists a platform for professional dialogue and peer learning. The event brought together medical students from Omsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, and Kazakhstan, who competed in surgical dentistry and immersed themselves in interactive topographic anatomy.

The events of the first day were held at the Omsk Clinical Dental Clinics №1, OSMU Building for Forensic Medicine and Morbid Anatomy, and OSMU College. Participants demonstrated their deep theoretical knowledge and ability to solve complex clinical problems. The Olympiad also included the workshop on "Atraumatic Extraction in Surgical Dentistry" by Ekaterina A. ZHUK, Head of the ALM Skills Center (Krasnoyarsk), preceded by a lecture and an introduction to the instruments and stages of procedures. Another workshop "Interactive Anatomy for Solving Clinical Situations in Dentistry" was organized and conducted by the staff of the Topographic Anatomy and Operative Surgery Department. Using modern technology and 3D models of the Pirogov table, the teams were able to visualize the anatomical structures of the maxillofacial region, allowing them to translate theory into practice and test the competitors' decision-making algorithms in close to real life conditions. At the conclusion of the first day of the Olympiad, actors from the inclusive theater group "Planet of Friends," led by N. L. MISHENINA, performed a New Year's play for the Olympiad participants and guests. Then, activists from the "Ulybka" (Smile) volunteer movement of the Dentistry Faculty gave the guests a tour of the main university building and Lyubinsky Prospekt.
The second day took place entirely at the Omsk Clinical Dental Clinics №1: teams demonstrated their CT scanning skills and knowledge of clinical guidelines for the main nosologies of surgical dentistry. Practical soft tissue manipulation skills demonstrated both the participants and the judges their strengths and areas where they needed to improve. Teams competed in solving situational problems, CT scanning, and communication skills in a business simulation.
According to the results of the Olympiad, the places were distributed as follows:
1st place – Novosibirsk State Medical University team;
2nd place – Omsk State Medical University team;
3rd place – Karaganda Medical University team.

We hope that the Olympiad will become a great tradition, uniting the best students from medical universities of Russia and abroad.
