On September 9 and 10, the 5th Congress of the National Society of Neuroradiologists took place online. The best Russian and foreign specialists gathered together to discuss demyelinating and autoimmune diseases of the CNS.
The event attracted more than a thousand professionals from twenty cities and six countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Austria, Belgium, France, and Turkey.
The participants were welcomed by Dmitriy Yu. USACHEV, Director of the Burdenko Neurosurgical Center, Galina N. DOROVSKIKH, President of the 5th Congress of the National Society of Neuroradiologists, Professor of the OSMU Department of The Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Head of the Radiodiagnostics Department at the Omsk Emergency Hospital №1, Igor N. PRONIN, Deputy Director of Burdenko Neurosurgical Center, President of the National Society of Neuroradiologists, and Alexey V. PROTOPOPOV, Rector of the Prof. V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky Krasnoyarsk State Medical University. They wished all participants and speakers fruitful discussions, noting that Russian healthcare is a shortage of specialists in neuroradiology, and there is an urgent need to develop and popularize this medical field.
This year, specialists focused on demyelinating and autoimmune diseases of the CNS caused by the destruction of the myelin in the CNS and PNS white matter. The most common demyelinating disease is multiple sclerosis, characterized by lesions of several parts of the CNS at once. In addition, experts discussed other important topics, including neuro-oncology, PET-CT in neuro-oncology and neurology, pain syndromes in neurosurgery and neurology, epilepsy, CNS vascular diseases, traumatic brain injury, diseases of the spinal cord and spine. The majority of the reports were devoted to new directions and methods in neurodiagnostics.
The Congress included plenary sessions, thematic school, and satellite symposia. As part of the «Neuro-oncology» plenary section, Prof. Valeriy I. LARKIN, MD, PhD, Head of the OSMU Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, has presented his work on brain tumors in newborns.
The attendees of the conference also heard from Igor I. LARKIN, MD, PhD, Professor of the OSMU Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, who presented his work «SCIWORA syndrome in clinical practice» in the «Spinal lesions» thematic school.
The topic of MRI and CT diagnosis of the degenerative changes in the spine was discussed by Prof. Galina N. Dorovskikh in her lecture «Radiodiagnosis of degenerative diseases of the spine».
The possibilities of MRI and the management of epilepsy in children in diagnostically complex situations were discussed by Omsk specialists: epileptologist Olga I. SHESTAKOVA and radiologist Svyatoslav I. AKSENOV.
The speakers also addressed age-related changes in the CNS, the causes and clinical manifestations of dementia and Parkinson's disease. Yuri V. LALOV, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of OSMU Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, told about diagnosis and management of patients with Parkinson's disease.
A total of 60 presentations were delivered at the Congress. In addition, an interactive case-solving took place as part of the event.
