The Interregional Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference «The Burning Issues of Rheumatology» was held on November 11-12.
The topic of the Conference is highly relevant: arthritis has ceased to affect the people over the age of 60; recently this disease is increasingly “attacking” young people. In this situation, the exchange of experience and analysis of cases based on clinical practice become a hot-spot issue.
The Conference was held in two days. The first day was dedicated to four topics: development of rheumatology, organization of rheumatological care, treatment of rheumatological patients in the era of COVID-19, and seronegative spondyloarthritis: a personalized approach to treatment. The work of pediatrics section also was organized on the first day.
The second day included the following sections: «Rheumatoid arthritis: a practical view on the treatment of a difficult patient», «Multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of a patient with metabolic syndrome», «Patient with joint diseases: a dialogue between rheumatologist and orthopedist», and «Connective tissue diseases».
The Conference brought together participants from Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Barnaul, and Omsk, who presented their reports both online and offline.
Prof. Alexander M. LILA, MD, PhD, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology, Head of the Rheumatology Department of the Russian Medical Academy for Continuing Professional Education (Moscow), an honored guest of the Conference, opened the event with the report «Achievements, current issues and prospects in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases».
Elena V. ZONOVA, MD, PhD, Chief Specialist in Rheumatology in the Siberian Federal District, Prof. of the Internal Diseases, Hematology, and Transfusiology Department of the Novosibirsk State Medical University, told about the unsolved problems and new challenges in rheumatology.
10 out of 46 reports presented at the Conference were prepared by OSMU scientists.
Prof. Elena Yu. KHOMUTOVA, MD, PhD, Head of the Radiodiagnostics Department, made 3 presentations: «Burning issues of the radiodiagnostics of rheumatological diseases», «Comparison of methods of radiodiagnostics for the early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis», and «Modern radiodiagnostics of gout».
Prof. Natalia A. MOROVA, MD, PhD, Head of the Internal Medicine (Advanced Course) and Endocrinology Department, told about the causes, mechanisms, management of heart failure in patients with COVID-19 infection.
German G. DZUBA, MD, PhD, Head of the Traumatology and Orthopedics Department, dedicated his speech to the infectious complications in patients with rheumatoid arthritis after endoprosthesis replacement of limb joints.
Elena B. PAVLINOVA, MD, PhD, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Head of the Pediatrics (Advanced Course) Department, presented the report «Rheumatic diseases in the practice of a pediatric endocrinologist. Clinical demonstration», co-authored with Natalia Yu. VLASENKO, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of the Pediatrics (Advanced Course) Department, Chief External Specialist in Pediatrics Endocrinology in the Omsk Region.
A number of reports were prepared by PhD students and assistant professors of Traumatology and Orthopedics and Internal Medicine (Advanced Course) and Endocrinology Departments.
The discussion and questions from the listeners showed the relevance of the issues raised at the conference. This allows us to say that rheumatology is developing, gradually implementing the latest scientific developments, research and technologies into clinical practice.
