On May 20 and 21, the II Siberian Neurocongress with International Participation in memory of Prof. Yuri N. SAVCHENKO, Honorary Professor of OSMU, Laureate of the State Prize of Russia in the field of Science and Technology, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, took place at OSMU.
The meeting has opened with welcoming speeches delivered by Alexander G. MURAKHOVSKY, MD, PhD, Minister of Public Health of the Omsk Region, and Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, OSMU Rector. Alexander G. MURAKHOVSKY has noted the social significance of the presented reports. He also has expressed his highest hopes for the practical implementation of modern diagnostic and treatment methods. Maria A. LIVZAN paid special attention to the benefits of the hybrid format of the Congress. She noted that online broadcasting brought a larger number of speakers with new perspectives, allowing participants to make new contacts and plant the seed for new ideas.
The meeting continued with a series of reports. Prof. Igor N. PRONIN, MD, PhD, Academician of the Russian Academy of Science, Deputy Director of the Federal State Institution of N. N. Burdenko Higher Professional Education, has presented his report on modern neuroimaging. Prof. Assoc. Jamil A. RZAYEV, MD, PhD, Chief Doctor of the Federal Center for Neurosurgery, Chief External Specialist in Neurosurgery in Siberian Federal District, Head of the Neurosurgery Department in Novosibirsk State Medical University, has spoken about prospects for the development of neurosurgical service in the Siberian Federal District. From the report of Natalia G. ZHUKOVA, MD, PhD, Prof. of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of Siberian State Medical University, the audience has learned about the early symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
Leading specialists in neurology and neurosurgery from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Surgut, Rostov, Omsk, Tashkent, and Almaty presented more than a hundred reports on the following topics: neurosurgery, neuropsychiatry, rehabilitation in modern neurology, pediatric neurology and neurosurgery, epilepsy, neuroimaging, movement disorders and botulinum therapy, pain management in neurologist practice.
In a «Neurosurgery» section, Prof. Valery I. LARKIN, MD, PhD, Head of the OSMU Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery (Postgraduate Course), has told about craniocerebral disproportion syndrome. Taras A. SKOROMETS, MD, PhD, Head of the Neurosurgery Department at V. M. Bekhterev Psychoneurological Institute (Saint Petersburg), presented his report on neurosurgical aspects of neurorehabilitation. The conversation about rehabilitation was continued by Prof. Vadim A. AKHMEDOV, MD, PhD, Head of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation (Postgraduate Course) with his report on neurological manifestations of the post-COVID syndrome.
In a «Diagnostic neuroimaging» section, Galina N. DOROVSKIKH, MD, PhD, Prof. of the OSMU Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (Postgraduate Course), Head of the Department of Radiodiagnostics at the Omsk Emergency Hospital №1, presented her report on neuroimaging of traumatic brain injury in adults and children.
Specialists from Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Omsk, and Novosibirsk have shared valuable practical pieces of advice with colleagues in a framework of a «Movement disorders and botulinum therapy» section. Roman A. DELOV, MD, PhD, Prof. Assoc. of the OSMU Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery (Postgraduate Course), in his report «Pathogenetic Features of Parkinson's Disease in Western Siberia» has spoken about the importance of modification of treatment depending on the genetic profile of the patient.
Neurodegenerative diseases are the challenge of the 21st century. The world scientific community has yet to explore the issues of disease development and the pathogenic mechanisms. The Neurocongress showed the high level of neurological research in Russia, giving grounds for further fruitful cooperation in the field.
