
On May 21, OSMU, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, hosted the International Scientific Conference for Residents and Students «Nikandrov Readings», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The ceremonial part commenced with welcome addresses by Prof. Olga V. KORPACHEVA, MD, PhD, Vice-Rector for Research; Prof. Anatoly F. SULIMOV, DMD, PhD, Head of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee; Assoc. Prof. Elmira Sh. GRIGOROVICH, DMD, PhD, Head of the Department of Dentistry, including Postgraduate Training Courses, Co-Chairperson of the Organizing Committee; and Prof. Alexander I. PYLKOV, DMD, PhD, Head of the Department of Surgical Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery at Kemerovo State Medical University. All speakers underscored the vital role of scientific forums like this in advancing professional excellence in surgical dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. Warm wishes for success and brilliant performance were extended to all guests, jury members, students, and clinical residents. The most distinguished participants will be honored with commemorative medals, trophies, and prestigious awards.
This year’s Conference saw a record number of participants from five federal districts of Russia (Central, Southern, Volga, Ural, Siberian) and thirteen medical universities, as well as delegates from the Republic of Belarus.
The opening ceremony was followed by an awards presentation recognizing distinguished Professors and prominent dental and maxillofacial surgeons. Special honors were bestowed upon veterans whose careers were closely linked with Prof. Anatoly M. NIKANDROV, DMD, PhD, the founder of the Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic in Omsk. Veterans were awarded specially minted commemorative medals, certificates of appreciation, and gifts. Warm wishes of health and prosperity were extended to them.
A touching highlight of the event was the presentation of family heirlooms by Prof. NIKANDROV’s granddaughter, Natalia B. CHERNOVA, to Assoc. Prof. Andrey S. KORSHUNOV, DMD, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of the OSMU Department of Dentistry, including Postgraduate Training Courses. The heirlooms included Prof. NIKANDROV’s medals, among them his awards from the Great Patriotic War, to be preserved as a tribute to his legacy and to inspire future generations of students and residents.
A significant moment for the local professional community was the recognition of Omsk dental surgeons by the medical expertise directorate of «AlfaStrakhovanie-OMS». Letters of gratitude were presented by Maksim V. BOGZA, Head of the Omsk Expert Center, in acknowledgment of their years of dedicated service and contribution to accessible healthcare in the region.
Guests and participants also had the opportunity to explore a special exhibition marking the 111th anniversary of Prof. Anatoly M. NIKANDROV’s birth, offering a deeper glimpse into his life and legacy.
Following the opening ceremony, the main scientific program began, featuring case presentations by students and residents, prepared under the guidance of their advisors. The entries were reviewed by a distinguished jury comprising leading regional specialists and esteemed Professors of OSMU in the fields of surgical dentistry and maxillofacial surgery.
The Conference continued with a Professional Skills Olympiad, where participants demonstrated their technical expertise using simulation equipment. The final awards ceremony took place on May 23 at the Assembly Hall of the City Clinical Dental Polyclinic №1.
