The Interregional Scientific Conference «Current Issues of Medical Rehabilitation in Neurology, Traumatology, and Internal Diseases», organized by the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region, OSMU, the Regional Clinical Hospital, and «Ezramed» Clinic, became a key meeting point for professionals across a broad range of specialties. Participants included experts in physical and rehabilitation medicine, reflexologists, neurologists, trauma and orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and sports medicine practitioners. The event also welcomed members of multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams, as well as OSMU students and residents, offering them a valuable platform to engage with leading experts and cutting-edge practices in the field.
The program included insightful presentations from leading experts from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Kurgan, and Omsk, as well as a special guest speaker from Berlin. These sessions offered attendees a glimpse into the latest advancements in rehabilitation medicine, delivered through a mix of in-person and online formats.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Vadim A. AKHMEDOV, MD, PhD, Head of the OSMU Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses, highlighted the expanding role of rehabilitation in medicine.
- The rapid progress of medical science, along with advances in diagnostics and the delivery of specialized, high-tech care, underscores the growing demand for rehabilitation across multiple disciplines, including neurology, cardiology, traumatology, orthopedics, rheumatology, and internal medicine, - Prof. Vadim A. AKHMEDOV stated.
The Conference was formally opened by Sergey N. KOZHEVNIKOV, MD, PhD, Chief Doctor of the Regional Center for Medical Rehabilitation, Chief Specialist for Medical Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region, and Chairperson of the regional branch of the Russian Union of Rehabilitation Specialists. In his report entitled «Current Issues in the Organization of Medical Rehabilitation: The Rehabilitation Cycle», he introduced a comprehensive protocol for planning rehabilitation efforts.
The multidisciplinary nature of the Conference was further reflected in the contributions of OSMU, which showcased research conducted by two of its departments. Prof. Vadim A. AKHMEDOV presented effective approaches to managing irritable bowel syndrome, emphasizing the integration of physiotherapy, therapeutic exercise, and reflexology in patient care. Assoc. Prof. Inna A. LAVRINENKO, Assoc. Prof. of the OSMU Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses, detailed a comprehensive strategy for rehabilitating patients with combat injuries, focusing on methods that optimize outcomes, reduce functional impairments, prevent psychological complications, and accelerate recovery. Dmitry E. BATUSHENKO, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of the OSMU Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses, shared insights into the design of rehabilitation programs for athletes, while Anastasia A. ZASTAVNAYA, MD, Prof. Asst. of the OSMU Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses, highlighted innovative recovery techniques following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, combining exercise therapy, physiotherapy, and kinesiotaping. Anna S. ISAEVA, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of the OSMU Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses, explored the use of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) in developing rehabilitation diagnoses for trauma patients, offering practical examples of goal-setting and task development.
Yuri V. LALOV, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, including Postgraduate Training Courses, discussed the application of botulinum toxin in neurology, sharing practical experiences and examining its potential for treating central nervous system disorders. Elina A. MELNIK, MD, PhD, Prof. Asst. of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, including Postgraduate Training Courses, addressed the challenges of diagnosing and managing chronic pelvic pain syndrome, particularly when accompanied by comorbidities, and introduced innovative rehabilitation techniques to address these issues effectively.
The Conference not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration, highlighting the essential role of rehabilitation in modern medical practice.
