At the recent III National Congress «National Healthcare-2024» in Moscow, Mikhail A. MURASHKO, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, honored the nation’s top medical professionals.
Among those recognized was Galina N. DOROVSKIKH, MD, PhD, Professor of the OSMU Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Head of the Radiodiagnostics Department at the Omsk Emergency Hospital №1, who was awarded «Best Diagnostic Specialist» in the national «Doctor of the Year» competition. A distinguished radiologist and Chief External Specialist in Radiology for the Omsk Ministry of Health, Galina N. DOROVSKIKH leads one of Russia’s most advanced radiology departments, conducting over 500,000 studies annually - 45% of all radiodiagnostic procedures in the city. Her department comprises highly qualified professionals actively engaged in research, setting a benchmark for excellence in the field.
Reflecting on the Congress, Galina N. DOROVSKIKH discussed upcoming healthcare initiatives announced by President Vladimir V. PUTIN, such as the national projects «Extended Active Life» and «New Health Preservation Technologies», which emphasize advancements in nuclear medicine for enhanced diagnostic precision.
Over the past three years, this Congress has united over 10,000 medical organizations and leading specialists in-person and over 30,000 online, addressing critical topics such as health promotion, healthcare accessibility, the integration of public engagement in health policies, and innovations in emergency medicine.
«As someone with over 30 years in emergency medicine, I was particularly drawn to the session «Every Second Counts: Innovations in Emergency Care»,» - Galina N. DOROVSKIKH remarked. She highlighted discussions on modernizing emergency services, such as updating admissions and expanding air medical services. Examples of flagship centers in Moscow, equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic technology, led her to inquire about establishing similar facilities in other major cities.
Omsk’s radiology infrastructure has also made significant strides, with the Omsk Emergency Hospital №1 now equipped with four CT scanners, two of which operate around the clock. In the intensive care unit, a CT scanner enables rapid diagnostics, including brain imaging, angiography, and heart and chest scans. The hospital also operates a 24/7 MRI suite, essential for assessing cases like traumatic brain injury and spinal damage. Furthermore, the facility serves as a citywide referral center for high-risk pregnancies requiring kidney diagnostics via MRI, offering safe, radiation-free imaging.
Galina N. DOROVSKIKH’s contributions to practical healthcare are deeply rooted in her early-2000s research initiatives. Since joining the OSMU Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in 2007, she has trained future specialists in emergency radiology.
«My most cherished award is the certificate from Donetsk State Medical University for my collaboration with radiology experts in Donbas», - Galina N. DOROVSKIKH noted. She was further honored with the prestigious 2023 V.I. Dombrovsky Prize for her outstanding contributions to radiology and education in the field.
Today, Omsk’s radiology system faces the challenge of transitioning from analog to digital, with 35% of its equipment currently digitized. Galina N. DOROVSKIKH sees this shift as a vital step toward implementing innovations like artificial intelligence in diagnostics.
«I am inspired by President Putin’s vision of AI as an aid to doctors, though it will never replace the invaluable expertise of a trained specialist», - she concluded.
