The National Scientific Conference «Prevention and Surgical Treatment of Complications of Injuries and Musculoskeletal Diseases», dedicated to the memory of Professor A.N. Goryachev, took place on May 24. The event was organized by OSMU and the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region.

- It is gratifying that the Conference gathers participants not only from Omsk and the Omsk region but also from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Barnaul, Krasnoyarsk, and Kurgan, - said Dmitry A. RYABIKOV, Deputy Minister of Health of the Omsk Region, during the event's opening.

- A doctor’s education extends far beyond obtaining a diploma, it is a lifelong journey. A multidisciplinary approach to patient care is integral to every medical specialty, including traumatology and orthopedics. Our traumatology school thrives and advances due to this interdisciplinary collaboration, which has led to significant developments and achievements, - welcomed Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, Acting OSMU Rector, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

- The distinctiveness of our Conference is rooted in its emphasis on addressing crucial issues related to the prevention and surgical treatment of injury complications. Now in its 7th iteration, our Conference has been tackling these highly relevant topics for fifteen years, - explained Assoc. Prof. German G. DZYUBA, MD, PhD, Chief Orthopedic Traumatologist of the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region, and Head of the OSMU Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics.

The Conference's work was divided into sections, concentrating on three main areas: «Bone Tissue Physiology: Issues in Diagnosing and Treating Complications in Traumatology and Orthopedics», «Non-Infectious Complications in Surgical Treatment of Fractures: Prevention and Treatment Options», and «Post-Traumatic Bone Infection and Revision Surgeries». Additionally, there were two sections dedicated to nursing, focusing on current issues in medical rehabilitation in traumatology and orthopedics.

Representing OSMU at the Conference were not only Maria A. LIVZAN and German G. DZYUBA, but also other speakers, including Prof. Vadim A. AKHMEDOV, MD, PhD, Head of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses; Galina N. DOROVSKIKH, MD, PhD, Chief External Specialist in Radiology and Instrumental Diagnostics, Professor of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, including Postgraduate Training Courses; Alexander V. TYUTYUNNIKOV, MD, PhD, Scientific Supervisor of the Traumatology Service, Head of the 4th Trauma Department at the Omsk Clinical Medical and Surgical Center, Prof. Asst. of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics; and Anastasia A. ZASTAVNAYA, Prof. Asst. of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, including Postgraduate Training Courses.

Vadim A. AKHMEDOV prepared two presentations that emphasized the multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitating patients experiencing complicated postoperative recoveries and the contemporary strategies for the effective organization and implementation of medical rehabilitation for fracture patients.

Alexander V. TYUTYUNNIKOV also delivered two presentations. The first, «Orthogeriatrics in Action: A Patient with a Proximal Femoral Fracture» and the second, «Hypertrophic Nonunions: How to Prevent and Treat It?» were derived from the analysis of intricate clinical cases, along with conclusions and recommendations.

- The theme of this event is extremely significant. It focuses on the treatment of the musculoskeletal system and related injuries. Cases of patients with complex combined injuries are frequent and result in numerous complications. Here, in Omsk, we convene doctors who manage these complications. We always aim to participate in these meetings to exchange experiences, which is why our scientific gatherings are so invaluable, - stated Anatoly V. BONDARENKO, MD, PhD, Professor at Altai State Medical University, Head of the Regional Center for Severe Combined Trauma, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation.
