On April 1-23, 2026, I.I. Mechnikov North-Western State Medical University hosted the VI Russian Olympiad with International Participation in Internal Medicine
The OSMU "Looking Inside" team, led by Olga V. ZAMAKHINA, MD, PhD (in Medicine), Assoc. Prof. of the Internal Medicine Department, has come a long way, and the results are truly impressive!
The correspondence round featured 81 teams from medical universities across Russia and neighboring countries. Our students passed a rigorous selection process and were among the top 12 teams invited to the in-person round.
The OSMU team included students of the Faculty of General Medicine: Ekaterina DOLGOVA (3rd year student), Elizaveta LEVAKHINA (5th year student), and team captain Arseniy CHUDNOV (4th year student).
The in-person round consisted of five challenging tests:
1. "Scientific Project" - homework on a topic assigned three weeks before the in-person round;
2. "Brain Ring" - a quiz with questions not only on propaedeutics but also on the history of medicine and the symptoms of diseases in art. Participants had to press a button and answer correctly before anyone else;
3. "Clinical Task" - participants were required not only to correctly diagnose the assigned task but also to compile a complete list of clinical syndromes, describe their detailed developmental mechanisms, and develop an examination and treatment plan;
4. "Practical Skills" - each participant was assigned their own station, where they had to demonstrate their physical examination skills on simulators;
5. "Diagnosis" - participants discussed the symptoms they identified at their station and organized them into syndromes, forming a preliminary diagnosis.
OSMU students demonstrated strong theoretical knowledge and received high marks for their practical preparation and clinical reasoning. The team captain demonstrated excellent public speaking skills while defending his research project, which was also highly praised by the jury. The OSMU team took third place in the rankings!
