The Scientific Conference «Burning Issues of Diagnosis and Treatment of Digestive System Diseases»

On September 17, OSMU hosted the Scientific Conference «Burning Issues of Diagnosis and Treatment of Digestive System Diseases», bringing together specialists in internal medicine, gastroenterology, general practice, and OSMU PhD students and residents. Approximately 250 participants attended the event in person, with additional attendees joining via online broadcast.
The Сonference featured keynote speakers, leading specialists in digestive system diseases from medical universities in Omsk and Novosibirsk
 
From Novosibirsk State Medical University, Prof. Marina F. OSIPENKO, MD, PhD, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine, delivered two presentations. Her lectures focused on the role of probiotic therapy in treating gastrointestinal diseases and on chronic pancreatitis, including a detailed case study. 
 
Leading the Conference, Professor Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, OSMU Rector, Corresponding Member of RAS, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine (Intermediate Level) and Gastroenterology, presented comprehensive reports on current gastroenterological diseases, covering their diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Topics included liver pathology, irritable bowel syndrome, overlap syndromes of functional digestive diseases, and the role of inflammation and motility disorders in gastrointestinal and biliary conditions. Her presentations integrated findings from both Russian and international research, offered clinical case reviews, and discussed risk factors with a particular emphasis on disease prevention.
 
Assoc. Prof. Sergey I. MOZGOVOY, MD, PhD, Department of Morbid Anatomy, discussed the challenges and limitations in examining gastric mucosal biopsy samples in patients with chronic gastritis. Assoc. Prof. Elena A. LYALYUKOVA, MD, PhD, Department of Internal and Family Medicine, including Postgraduate Training Courses, explored diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to alcoholic liver disease. Assoc. Prof. Olga V. GAUS, MD, PhD, Department of Internal Medicine (Intermediate Level) and Gastroenterology, highlighted clinical cases related to acid-dependent diseases. Assoc. Prof. Tatyana S. KROLEVETS, MD, PhD, Department of Internal Medicine (Intermediate Level) and Gastroenterology, spoke on patient management based on fibrosis risk assessment in metabolic-associated fatty liver disease. Assoc. Prof. Galiya R. BIKBAVOVA, MD, PhD, Department of Internal Medicine (Advanced Level) and Endocrinology, shared insights on nutrition in inflammatory bowel diseases.
 
The Conference concluded with an engaging Q&A session, underscoring the relevance and importance of the topics discussed. The event provided a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge and practical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases, both in current clinical practice and in the context of rapidly evolving insights into disease pathogenesis and targeted therapy.
