The Scientific Student Conference «Assisted Reproductive Technologies: Morphological Aspects»

The Scientific Student Conference «Assisted Reproductive Technologies: Morphological Aspects» took place on December 18.
The technology of IVF has been under development for several decades. Reproductive scientists conducted over 600 embryo transfers before the historic procedure on November 10, 1977, when an eight-cell embryo was successfully transferred into the uterine cavity, resulting in a uterine pregnancy. The first «test-tube» baby in the Soviet Union was born in February 1986 in the laboratory of B. V. Leonov. According to statistics, more than one million children conceived via IVF have been born worldwide in the past three decades.
The scientific and practical aspects of these innovative reproductive technologies formed the basis of the city-wide student scientific conference, «Assisted Reproductive Technologies: Morphological Aspects». 2nd-year students, having completed a course in embryology, presented reports that highlighted various aspects of gametogenesis, key factors influencing spermatogenesis and oogenesis leading to infertility, and the stages of fertilization both in vivo and in vitro.
K. S. TAGAKOV, a clinical laboratory diagnostics doctor and PhD student from the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, shared his expertise with future colleagues. He discussed the achievements of the Omsk Reproductive Medicine Center «Mother and Child» Clinic. His presentation covered the preparation and examination of ejaculate in clinical practice, emphasizing the immunohistochemical morphometric analysis of spermatozoa in modern clinical settings. He also addressed the main causes of male infertility. Participants gained new insights into providing medical care for reproductive health disorders using assisted reproductive technologies in the Omsk region. Numerous questions were raised for the speakers, and some sparked heated discussions.
