On March 13–15, OSMU hosted the VIII West Siberian Psychiatric Forum. The event featured two major scientific programs: «The Young Psychiatrist School» and the National Scientific Conference «Interdisciplinary Issues in Psychiatry and Neuroscience».
The Forum united specialists in psychiatry, neurology, psychotherapy, and medical psychology, along with researchers and students. Leading experts from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Kazan, Ufa, and Omsk shared insights on scientific and practical advances in mental disorders treatment. More than 200 participants attended the event, engaging in nearly 30 presentations, including lectures, clinical case reviews, and scientific reports.
«The first two days of the Forum offered young specialists a unique chance to learn from esteemed professionals and refine their clinical skills. «The Young Psychiatrist School» blended lectures with in-depth clinical case analysis. The final day was dedicated to key scientific discussions on psychopathology, psychiatric methodology, and practical approaches to diagnosing and treating mental disorders - fundamental topics for the professional community», - said Grigoriy M. USOV, MD, PhD, Head of the OSMU Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology.
The Conference’s key themes revolved around contemporary issues in psychopathology, methodology in psychiatry, and core approaches to the treatment of mental disorders.
Modern psychiatry is continuously broadening its horizons, extending beyond the treatment of severe mental illnesses to include borderline conditions, mental health prevention, prognosis, and professional screening. Today, a specialist's expertise is defined not only by clinical knowledge but also by strong communication skills, experience in patient care and supervision, and a deep understanding of general psychopathology.
Among the Forum’s esteemed guests were Prof. Igor V. OLEYCHIK, MD, PhD, Chief Researcher at the Department of Endogenous Mental Disorders and Affective States at the National Center for Psychiatry and Addiction (Moscow), and Assoc. Prof. Andrey A. SHMILOVICH, MD, PhD, Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology at Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (Moscow).
Representing the Omsk psychiatric school, Grigoriy M. USOV delivered three presentations: «Pathogenetic Therapy for Dementia», «Challenges in Selecting an Antipsychotic for Long-term Schizophrenia Treatment», and «Neuroinflammation in Depression: A Trend or a New Therapeutic Target?».
The Conference followed a hybrid format, combining in-person presentations with online speeches. The lively discussions, active audience participation, and high level of engagement underscored the Forum’s significance and relevance for the psychiatric community.
