On June 26-28, 2023, OSMU hosted the delegation from Xinjiang Medical University (China), which arrived with a purpose of strengthening ties between professors and university staff. Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, Rector of OSMU, Corresponding Member of RAS, presented a synopsis of several projects in the fields of morbid anatomy, gastroenterology, and oncology, that received support from the Ministry of Health. During the meeting, representatives of the above-named directions were able to introduce Chinese colleagues to the activities of the respective departments in more detail.
Dmitry M. VYUSHKOV, MD, PhD, Acting Head of the OSMU Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy (Postgraduate Course), told about the structure of the Omsk Clinical Cancer Center, equipment of the departments and the main activities of the Center, the current research trends of the Oncology and Radiotherapy (Postgraduate Course) Department of OSMU.
Vadim A. AKHMEDOV, Head of the Medical Rehabilitation (Postgraduate Course) Department, told about the activities of the Department and postgraduate courses for advanced professional training and retraining. Together with Maria A. LIVZAN, they discussed the perspective of cooperation with Chinese colleagues in the field of grant competitions.
In his turn, Prof. Zeng Binfang, Rector of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Xinjiang Medical University), introduced Omsk colleagues to the staff and history of Xinjiang Medical University, told about its eight clinical sites, and invited all the participants of the meeting to the Traditional Medicine Forum expressing hope for further effective cooperation.
In the framework of the visit, Chinese colleagues visited the Center of Medical Rehabilitation, where they got acquainted with the equipment of procedure units and gyms, and found out more about OSMU activities in the field of rehabilitation medicine. After that, Prof. Assoc. Zhi Yun presented the lecture on the preventive treatment of GI tumors with the use of acupuncture. The idea of symbiosis between European and traditional medicine run like a golden thread through the report. Talking about the prevention of tumors, the emphasis was put on the proper nutrition. During the master class on acupuncture, Prof. Assoc Zhi Yun presented the basics of theory of the tender points of the human body, affecting which we can indirectly affect internal organs. Activation of the immune system, autonomic nervous system, and endocrine system is the basis of the traditional approach to diseases prevention in Chinese medicine.
At the end of the last working day, the delegation met Prof. Vladimir L. STASENKO, Dean of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine. Epidemiology and infectious diseases are common interests of both universities, that is why the cooperation in the field of preventive medicine has every chance of success.
During the intensive work of the delegation, it was decided to conclude the agreement of intent aimed at creating a joint clinic of traditional Chinese medicine on the basis of OSMU, where it was planned to introduce methods for diagnosing and treating diseases using traditional Chinese medicine, conduct joint research, develop educational materials, guidelines and textbooks on traditional Chinese medicine in Russian and much more. On behalf of Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, MD, PhD, Rector of OSMU, Corresponding Member of RAS, Ivan G. SHTEINBORM, First Vice-Rector of OSMU, took part in the procedure for discussing and signing the agreement of intent.
At the end of the visit, both sides expressed interest in the fulfillment of all plans and further fruitful cooperation.
