Transformation of Youth Policy in Medical and Pharmaceutical Universities

From July 16 to 20, the Russian Forum "Transformation of Youth Policy in Medical and Pharmaceutical Universities", organized by the Ministry of Health of the Russia, the Federal Center for Support of Volunteering and Mentoring in the Field of Health of the Ministry of Health of Russia and the Council of Students of the Ministry of Health of Russia, was held in Moscow.  OSMU was represented at the Forum by Elina N. ASTAFIEVA, Head of the Department of Youth Policy and Social Work, and Ignat POPOV, the Chairperson of the Students Council.

At the opening of the event, Olga N. TULUPOVA, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Education and Staff Policy in Healthcare of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russia, emphasized the importance of youth policy for the state and healthcare: "It is very important for us that a single standard for implementing youth policy is not just a set of measures, but a living organism, an operating system that would allow implementing youth policy not only in medical universities, but also in medical faculties of other educational organizations." During lectures, master classes, round tables and discussions, the forum participants discussed key areas of youth policy in medical universities, considering the specifics of the academic workload, intensive immersion in clinical practice and high moral and ethical requirements for future doctors. Particular attention was paid to creating an environment in which a student can not only master a profession, but also reveal their personal potential. Thematic blocks of the forum were formed in accordance with the approved methodological recommendations for the implementation of the Standard for Working with Young People in Educational Organizations Implementing Medical and Pharmaceutical Education Programs.

The eventful program also included team projects. OSMU representatives took an active part in the discussions, proposing initiatives aimed at supporting students in the context of professional development. At the end of the Forum, the participants presented their project, received expert assessment and recommendations for further implementation of projects on the ground. Such a comprehensive approach will allow scaling up best practices and will help create a more transparent and effective youth policy system in universities.
