On May 20 and 21, 2022, the V Congress of General Practitioners, or Family Doctors, of the Siberian Federal District took place in Omsk. The event was organized by OSMU, Ministry of Public Health of the Omsk Region, Russian Scientific Medical Society of Internal Medicine (RSMSIM), and Russian Society for the Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases.
Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN, Rector of OSMU, became the chairperson of the Congress; Galina I. NECHAEVA, MD, PhD, Prof. of the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine (Postgraduate Course) Department, Chief External Expert of the Ministry of Health of Russia for General Medicine/Family Medicine in the Siberian Federal District, Alexander G. MURAKHOVSKY, MD, PhD, Minister of Public Health of the Omsk Region, and Prof. Assoc. Olga V. KORPACHEVA, MD, PhD, Vice-Rector for Research, co-chaired this event. Prof. Assoc. Inna V. DRUK, MD, PhD, Head of the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine (Postgraduate Course) Department, was the chairperson of the Scientific & Organizing Committee and head of the Program Committee.
The Congress was held on-site and attracted practicing doctors and scientists not only from OSMU, but also from Moscow, Tver, and Izhevsk.
Galina I. NECHAEVA mentioned the significance of this gathering as a way for practicing doctors to receive up-to-date knowledge from the leading specialists.
The Congress started with a plenary session. Prof. Oksana M. DRAPKINA, MD, PhD, Chief External Expert of the Ministry of Health of Russia for General Medicine/Family Medicine, Director of the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine, presented her report «Core elements of primary healthcare». Prof. Anatoly I. MARTYNOV, MD, PhD, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the RSMSIM, Prof. of the Internal Medicine (Advanced Course) Department of Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry, discussed the issue of the optimal blood pressure goals in elderly patients. Prof. Maria A. LIVZAN told about the post-COVID functional intestinal disorders in the GP’s practice. Prof. Galina I. NECHAEVA gave a report «General medicine in the region: current status and areas of concern». Prof. Inna A. VIKTOROVA, MD, PhD, Head of the Internal Medicine (Out-Patient Setting) Department of OSMU, Chief External Expert of the Ministry of Health of Russia for General Medicine/Family Medicine in the Omsk Region, spoke about the problems and prospects of the therapeutic service in the Omsk Region.
The Congress covered the large number of medical fields, such as gastroenterology, geriatrics, cardiology, general medicine, general practice (family medicine), phthisiology, pediatrics, internal diseases, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, allergology and immunology, ophthalmology, and pulmonology. All of them were discussed on the on the following sessions: «Preventive medicine: ask the gastroenterologist», «Preventive medicine: ask the cardiologist», «Emergency surgery in the GP’s practice», «Childhood causes of adult diseases», «Preventive medicine: ask the geriatrician», «Preventive medicine: ask the TB specialist», «Co-morbidity in the GP’s practice», «Preventive medicine: ask the pulmonologist and allergist», «Preventive medicine: ask the gynecologist», and «Preventive medicine: ask the ophthalmologist».
OSMU employees also shared their knowledge with colleagues: the reports were presented by Prof. Yuriy B. BELAN, MD, PhD, Head of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Department; Prof. Inna A. VIKTOROVA, MD, PhD, Head of the Internal Medicine (Out-Patient Setting) Department; Prof. Assoc. Evgeny N. DEGOVTSOV, MD, PhD, Head of the N.S. Makokha Surgery Department (Advanced Course) Department; Prof. Assoc. Inna V. DRUK, MD, PhD, Head of the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine (Postgraduate Course) Department; Prof. Oleg I. LEBEDEV, MD, PhD, Head of the Ophthalmology Department; Prof. Anna V. MORDYK, MD, PhD, Head of the Phthisiology, Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases Department; Prof. Assoc. Elena B. PAVLINOVA, MD, PhD, Head of the Pediatrics (Advanced Course) Department; Prof. Vladimir L. POLUEKTOV, MD, PhD, Head of the Surgery (Intermediate Level) and Urology Department; Prof. Assoc. Irina V. The Congress ended with a student scientific competition «Geriatric syndromes: the GP’s approach».
Tight Congress schedule, its specifics, and the involvement of participants showed the relevance of the covered topics. It is worth noting the organization of the event, which allowed the participants to take part in multiple sessions. All this allows us to say that general practitioners work tirelessly on prolonging patients’ lives and improving the professional skills.
