World Osteoporosis Day is celebrated every year on October 20. It was founded in 1997 by the World Health Organization to raise awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases.
Russian Association on Osteoporosis was established in 1995, and over 50 Osteoporosis Centers work under its auspices. The Association has gained rich experience in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and regularly shares good practice with the foreign colleagues in international congresses and organizing the workshops for specialists in this filed.
Various preventive, sports, educational and scientific events dedicated to the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis are held annually on October 20th around the world within the framework of the World Osteoporosis Day.
