On December 16, 2025, the annual Scientific Conference dedicated to burning issues in pediatric dentistry was held online. This year, it had an international format with speakers and attendees from Perm, St. Petersburg, Minsk, and Omsk. This year, the Conference was dedicated to the anniversary birthday of Professor Vilorik A. DISTEL, a senior and esteem member of the OSMU Department of Pediatric Dentistry; an orthodontist, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, who turned 85 in 2025. Therefore, the main topics of the Conference were orthodontics and dental and jaw prosthetics in children.
Forum participants heard reports from outstanding orthodontists: Prof. M.A. DANILOVA, DMD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation; Prof. T.N. TEREKHOVA, DMD, Dr Sci (in Medicine); and Prof. L.N. SOLDATOVA, DMD, Dr Sci (in Medicine). The opening speech was delivered by Prof. Galina I. SKRIPKINA, DMD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), Head of the OSMU Department of Pediatric Dentistry. In her report, she reflected on the professional career of V.A. DISTEL, a remarkable individual, brilliant dentist, educator, and researcher, founder of the scientific and pedagogical school of orthodontics at OSMU, who pioneered the pediatric prosthetics in Omsk and the development of orthodontic treatment for dentofacial anomalies using removable intra- and extraoral appliances of various designs.
Prof. M.A. DANILOVA focused on a topical issue in providing orthodontic care to children: dental and jaw prosthetics. Prof. T.N. TEREKHOVA touched on an equally important topic at the intersection of orthodontics and pediatric dentistry: the importance of fluoride prophylaxis during orthodontic treatment with permanent structures. Prof. L.N. SOLDATOVA presented a modern approach to examining children in orthodontics using cone beam CT.
These and many other topics were actively discussed online in real time. In total, over one hundred and twenty people participated in the Conference, including dentists from medical institutions, staff of dental departments, students and residents across the country.
At the end of the Conference, participants discussed future collaboration between the scientific and healthcare communities and outlined topics for future presentations at upcoming conferences, taking into account the needs of practicing dentists.
