Brief History

Since 1921 the courses of foreign languages were taught at the University (since 1921 – Latin, since 1933 – German, and since 1938 – English and French).
 
During the Great Patriotic War, the courses were reorganized into the Department of Foreign Languages.
 
In different periods the Department was headed by:
1944-1956 – Nikolai P. LEPORSKII
1956-1959 – Yakov I. VALL
1960-1979 – Vasily D. KAZAKOV, WWII Veteran
1979-1997 – Nelli G. ARZHAEVA
1997-2003 – Assoc. Prof. Mikhail V. MOISEEV, PhD in Philology, who paid a great attention to the lingvocultural issues.
Since 2003 – Assoc. Prof. Margarita B. MUSOKHRANOVA. Her main scientific interests are related to terminogenesis of the language of medicine.
 
Festival "Symphony of Languages" is an annual colorful and bright multicultural event of the Department gathering the students of all nationalities from Omsk Universities.
 
Annual Scientific Conference on Medical Terminology is organized by the staff of the Department attracting the students who are interested in history and development of medical terms and who conduct their first studies at the University.
