Brief History

The Maxillofacial Surgery Department was established in 1960.
 
Professor Anatoly NIKANDROV, who was awarded two Orders of the Red Star and nine medals for his participation in the WWII, was assigned as a first Head of the Department. He also was an organizer of the first Dental Surgery Clinic in Omsk.
 
In July 1962, Professor NIKANDROV founded The Clinic of Maxillofacial Surgery which till now has been considered as a medical, scientific and training center.
 
Thanks to the great work of Prof. Anatoly M. NIKANDROV, his colleagues and numerous students, in 1984, by the decision of the Ministry of Public Health of the RSFSR the Faculty of Dentistry was granted the status as a leading Dental Institution in Siberia and the Far East.
 
In 1974, Prof. Anatoly NIKANDROV was awarded by the Badge of Honor as an Excellent Worker of Public Health of the USSR and the Letter of Gratitude from the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation.
 
From 1990 to 2008, Prof. Peter I. IVASENKO, MD, PhD, Honoured Physician of the Russian Federation, headed the Department. His name is mentioned in the Encyclopedia "Modern Intellectual Potential of Russia."
 
In 1994, The World Health Organization (WHO) assigned the Faculty of Dentistry as the Innovation Dental Centre.
 
Since 2008, the Department has been led by Prof. Anatoly F. SULIMOV who has developed and implemented a number of diagnostic techniques to identify undifferentiated forms of dysplasia of connective tissues.
