Brief History

The Department was established in 1928 headed by Prof. N. A. PAUTOV, who was the Chief Otorhinolaryngologist of the Soviet Army in 1951-1957.
 
In 1960, the Department was led by Prof. N. V. MISHENKIN, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Honored Professor of OSMU, who developed a new method for treatment of chronic tonsillitis using “Tonsilor” apparatus.
 
In 1999 Prof. Yuriy A. KROTOV, MD, PhD, became a Head of the Department.
 
The staff of the Department is closely working with the problems related to the cross-fields, such as surdology, surdopedagogy, otoneurology, phoniatrics, speech therapy, and a wide range of surgical and therapeutic disorders, including endoscopy of ENT organs, head and neck oncology, and emergency conditions.
 
In 2024, Assoc. Prof. Sergey Yu. KROTOV, MD, PhD, has led the Department.
