The history of the Department dates back to 1923 when weekly lectures on Psychiatry started to be given as a part of the Neurology Course.
The Department was established in 1925 headed by Nikolai P. VOLOKHOV.
1934-1948, the Department was led by Prof. Iosif V. LYSAKOVSKII, MD, PhD. Under his supervision Museum was established.
1984-2003, the Department was headed by Prof. Mikhail G. USOV, MD, PhD. That period was marked by studying the issues of adolescent psychiatry and addiction medicine, treatment and prognosis of depression in teenagers.
2005-2020, the Department was led by Prof. Yuriy V. DROZDOVSKII, MD, PhD, who actively studied non-pharmacological treatment methods in psychiatry.
