In 1925, the first Residency Program was announced, and in 1956 – a PhD Program. Many graduates became famous professors, heads of the departments of Russian medical universities, and earned the respect of colleagues as highly qualified clinicians and scientists.

The evidence of high moral values of the staff is their active participation in the Great Patriotic War, when many of them served as military doctors and took a direct part in the battles.

Since 1974, the Department has been located in the Omsk Regional Clinical Hospital. As the Hospital expanded and the specialized units opened, the need for specialists has arisen, and the Department started the training of future Hospital employees. Today, the most experienced doctors work as scientific supervisors of the units, including units of Rheumatology, Cardiorehabilitation, Endocrinology, Hematology, Pulmonology, and Gastroenterology.

Annually, the Department helds the scientific and practical conferences on Internal Medicine and Morbid Anatomy, where doctors and scientists from Omsk and other Russian universities present their reports.
