Brief History

The Morbid Anatomy Department was established in 1922 and located at the Omsk Military Hospital. The first Head of the Department was Prof. Israel S. PENTMAN, a graduate of the Basel University, Switzerland.
 
In the years 1928-1934, the Department was headed by Prof. Vladimir V. LAUER who launched PhD Program in Morbid Anatomy.
 
In 1934-1939, the Department was led by Grigory S. MAKHULKO-GORBATSEVICH, who paid special attention to the cadaveric dissection.
 
Prof. Illarion S. NOVITSKY was the Head of the Department in 1939-1965, focusing the scientific interests on geographic pathology (brucellosis, Omsk hemorrhagic fever, opisthorchiasis), oncomorphology, and age-related pathology.
 
From 1965 to 1972, the Department was led by Prof. Kuzma S. BULBAKOV, who was engaged in studying morphological oncology, tuberculosis, occupational pathology.
 
In the years 1972-1997, the Department was headed by Prof. Anton S. ZINOVIEV, MD, PhD, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Under his supervision, the structural basics of adaptation and compensation processes in the central nervous system and, in the organs of the immune system on models of various pathological processes were developed.
 
Since 1997, the Department is led by Prof. Alexey V. KONONOV, MD, PhD, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Member of the Presidium of the Russian Gastroenterological Association, Principal External Specialist in Morbid Anatomy of the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District, Vice President of the Russian Society of Pathologists. He developed the concept of molecular genetic prediction and pathological monitoring as the basis for secondary prevention of gastric cancer.
