The Department of Surgery (Advanced Level) was established in 1922 and located at the Military Hospital. The first Head of the Department was Prof. Vladimir L. BORMAN.
From 1933 to 1937, the Department led by Professor Alexey A. OZHERELIEV. And he had done a lot for the development of surgery in Omsk during that period. On his initiative, the Blood Bank and Omsk Cancer Center were established. The course of Oncology started to be taught in OSMU and Scientific Society of Oncologists was founded.
From 1962 to 1985, the Department led by Prof. Nikolay S. MAKOKHA, a pioneer in the surgery of duodenal and pancreatic cancer in Siberia and the Far East. An experienced practitioner and talented scientist, MAKOKHA was known widely in our country and beyond. Keeping the scientific traditions of the Department, the staff continues to study the diseases of the pancreatic and duodenal area. Since December 2019, the Department is considered to be named after Nikolay S. MAKOKHA.
Since 1991, the Department of Hospital Surgery is located at the Omsk Emergency Hospital №1.
Since 2012, the Head of the Department is Assoc. Prof. Eugeny N. DEGOVTSOV, MD, PhD.
