Brief History

The Department of Normal Physiology was established in 1921 and in 1922 was headed by a Professor of the Siberian Institute of Veterinary and Zoology, Mikhail P. KALMYKOV.
 
When the Medical Faculty of the Siberian Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Zoology was reorganized into the West Siberian State Medical Institute, the Department was provided with up-to-date equipment and its own Operation Theater and laboratory.
 
In 1950, Prof. Georgiy P. CONRADY was assigned as a head of the Department. He made a major contribution to the development of physiology of the central nervous system and blood circulation. His fundamental work "Regulation of Vascular Tone" became widely known some years later.
 
During thas period, the staff of the Department intensively studied the impact of mineral mud from Ebejty and Uljai lakes (Omsk Region) on human health. In collaboration with practical doctors, the inventions of the Department were implemented into the physiotherapeutic treatment programs in the health resorts.
 
Since March 1997 to June 2020, Prof. Alexander G. PATYUKOV, MD, PhD, headed the Department. Under his supervision, the scientists of the Department were proceeding research on the electromechanical and chemical mechanisms of signal transmission in smooth muscle cells.
 
In recent years, the Department is being equipped with modern technologies to create useful inventions for successful implementation in medical practice.
 
In July 2020 Assoc. Prof. Vladimir V. RUSAKOV, MD, PhD was assigned as the Head of the Department.
