Brief History

The Pathology Department was established in 1921 and located at the Military Hospital. In 1925 it was reorganized into Pathophysiology Department. Prof. Eugeny L. KAVETSKY was the first lecturer of the Department.
 
In 1923-1924 the lectures were presented by Prof. M. KUCHINSKY from Berlin Institute for Pathology.
 
In the years 1923-1933, the Department was headed by Prof. Israel S. PENTMAN, a graduate of the Basel University, Switzerland. Under his supervision the age-related changes in the thyroid gland in Omsk Region and the problems of the pathology of the blood system were studied, and a system of iodine deficiency prevention of endemic goiter was developed.
 
In 1933-1971, the Department was led by Prof. Iosif B. MAZHBICH. This period has been marked by studying the issues in respect to immunologic reactivity of the body.
 
Valentin G. KORPACHEV was the Head of the Department in 1971-1978, focusing the scientific interests on pathogenesis and the development of the principles of experimental therapy for postresuscitation disease, including postresucitation encephalopathy and circulatory insufficiency, disturbances in gas exchange pulmonary function and microcirculation, water and electrolytic balance and acid-based condition.
 
From 1977 to 1985, the Department was led by Prof. Assoc. Ivan E. MATUSOV, who was engaged in the development of didactic issues in general pathology.
 
From 1985 to 2018, the Department was headed by Prof. Vladimir T. DOLGIKH, MD, PhD Academician of RAMTS (Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences). The scientific research was aimed at studying the mechanisms of damage and protection of the heart in acute fatal blood loss and the chest contusion, identification of the leading pathogenetic factors of circulatory failure in severe traumatic brain injury, heart and gastrointestinal tract damage in hemorrhagic hypotension, heart failure in pancreatic necrosis and sepsis.
 
Since 2018, the Department has been led by Assoc. Prof. Olga V. KORPACHEVA, MD, PhD.
