Brief History

The Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Field Surgery was established in 1966. The first Head of the Department was Prof. Nikolai F. IVASHIN, MD, PhD.
 
In the years 1972-1978, the Department was headed by Assoc. Prof. Lev F. ISUPOV, MD, PhD, who first in Omsk performed commissurotomy in mitral stenosis, giving a start for cardiac surgery in Omsk.
 
From 1978 to 1999, the Department was led by Prof. Anatoly N. GORYACHEV, MD, PhD, who established the Omsk School of Traumatologists and Orthopedists. A lot of new methods of treatment were implemented, including primary osteosynthesis with compression frames, open fractures management using ultrasonic cavitation and permanent flushing drainage, a two-stage technique for patients with severe open hand traumas, a system of treatment for patients with degenerative, dystrophic and rheumatoid lesions of the hip and knee joints, such as endoprosthetic, corrective osteotomies, Hiari pelvic osteotomy, synovectomy, and synovapsulectomy.
 
In 1999-2004, the Department was led by Vladimir A. DRACHEVSKY, MD, PhD. He was the first who performed an arthroscopy and implemented it into practice in the Omsk Region. He also established and was the Head of a unique Unit for Sports and Ballet Traumas.
 
In the years 2004-2006, the Department was headed by Viktor K. NOSKOV, MD, PhD.
 
From 2008 to 2019 Prof. Leonid B. REZNIK, MD, PhD was the Head of the Department, focusing scientific interests on the treatment of pathology of large joints and endoprosthetic, purulent osteology, osteosynthesis, and the new high-tech techniques, including new generation ultrasonic devices, biodegradable materials, nanoceramic coatings.
 
Since 2019 German DZYUBA is the Head of the Department.
